Lady Lions Drop Two in Doubleheader at Southern Wells

The Lions softball team traveled to Southern Wells for a doubleheader. The Lions lost both games. Here are the stories from each game:

Lions Falls To Southern Wells After Fourth Inning Score

Lions stayed in it until the end, but Southern Wells pulled away late in a 12-2 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at two with Southern Wells batting in the bottom of the fourth when Riley Tappy drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Lions struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Southern Wells, giving up 12 runs.

Kyla Coffel earned the victory in the circle for Southern Wells. She lasted five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out six and walking zero.

Paige Grant took the loss for Lions. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs on 11 hits and striking out two.

Maddy Harmon went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Lions in hits. Lions didn’t commit a single error in the field. Martina Brown had the most chances in the field with four.

Southern Wells totaled 11 hits in the game. Kayla FultonTaylor Small, and Grace Michael all had multiple hits for Southern Wells. Fulton led Southern Wells with three hits in three at bats. Southern Wells was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Taylor Wells had the most chances in the field with eight.

Early Lead For Southern Wells Seals Fate For Lions

Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 14-11 loss to Southern Wells on Saturday. Southern Wells scored on a single by Riley Tappy in the first inning, a error in the first inning, a single by Sydney Collins in the first inning, a fielder’s choice by Grace Michael in the second inning, a double by Kyra Kiel in the second inning, a double by Madison Bolinger in the second inning, and a single by Alexys Gibbs in the second inning.

Lions collected ten hits and Southern Wells had 12 in the high-scoring affair.

Lions scored five runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Brianna GreenleeGrace Davidson, and Kaylen Armogum.

Southern Wells scored five runs in the second inning. Southern Wells’s big inning was driven by doubles by Kiel and Bolinger, a single by Gibbs, and a fielder’s choice by Michael.

Tappy led the Southern Wells to victory in the circle. She went seven innings, allowing 11 runs on ten hits and striking out seven.

Maddie Mercer took the loss for Lions. She allowed two hits and five runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one.

Lions saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Gianna ThigpenDavidson, and Maddy Harmon all had multiple hits for LionsHarmonDavidson, and Thigpen each collected two hits to lead Lions.

Southern Wells tallied 12 hits on the day. Cat TuckerGibbs, and Bolinger each collected multiple hits for Southern Wells. Tucker led Southern Wells with three hits in five at bats.

Liberty Christian travels to Muncie Central on 5/13. The Lady Lions’ record is now 10-8 (5-1).
