Lions stole the lead late and defeated Marion 9-1 on Monday. The game was tied at one with Lions batting in the top of the fifth when Grace Davidson singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
Lions secured the victory thanks to five runs in the sixth inning. Abby Graham, Davidson, Maddie Mercer, Alayna Thomas, and Paige Grant all drove in runs in the frame.
Marion fired up the offense in the first inning, when an error scored one run for Marion.
Lions evened things up at one in the top of the third inning. Grant‘s sac fly scored one run for Lions.
Lions notched five runs in the sixth inning. Graham, Davidson, Mercer, Thomas, and Granteach drove in runs during the inning.
Thomas was the winning pitcher for Lions. She lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out 11 and walking one.
Ky Adkins took the loss for Marion. She allowed eight hits and nine runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Lions tallied eight hits on the day. Graham, Davidson, and Brianna Greenlee each had multiple hits for Lions. Greenlee, Davidson, and Graham each collected two hits to lead Lions.
Larielle Cox went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Marion in hits.
